Demolition Part 2

Here is the second part of the house demolition. We knocked down the rest of the drywall and several walls, tore up the floors, and started with the roof. The leaves were falling and so were our walls! The weather was turning cooler, but our enthusiasm for the project was heating up! Okay, enough silly puns! ;)

Also, I apologize for the poor photo quality. I don’t have a great camera and I didn’t have an iPhone at that point. I hope to someday own a DSLR, but for now it’s just a dream! :)

Here are the pictures!

Next up is our new roof! The roof was “high” on our list of things to do before winter. Oh goodness, I guess I’m feeling punny today! :)

The first half of the roof completed! My Pops and Nana chose a green metal roof. I think that the green ties in nicely with the surrounding trees and  I LOVE metal roofs. The sound of the rain is so calming and since I have an upper level bedroom, I will get to hear it well!

Here is the completed roof and just in time for the snow! Actually, it’s not all finished at this point. Pops wanted to wait to do the back half of the kitchen until he added the addition so that he could tie those areas together.

Have a Happy Wednesday! :)

52 Weeks of Blogging with a Purpose: 10 Things I Live For

Today I’m participating in a link-up about blogging with a purpose and this week the topic is about the most important things in life. I thought it would be a fun way for you to get to know me a little better! :)

10 Things I live For:

My Savior. I  am so grateful for His everlasting love. God has carried me through many valleys and He still continues to be my rock and foundation. I’m so thankful that Jesus died on the cross for me and His blood covers my sins. I want Him to be number one in my life and I strive to honor Him in all that I do.

My Family. I have one of the best families in the world! All my Aunts and Uncles live within 10 minutes of my house and we’ve always been very close. My mama is my best friend and has always taken such great care of me and loved me! Mama and I have lived with Pops and Nana for my entire life and I am so thankful for the loving home they have provided.

Friends. I love getting together with friends and just talking. It’s a true blessing when you have someone to share life with. Since my family lives so close, I had the opportunity to grow up alongside my cousins and I still love hanging out with them. I’m so blessed to have such close cousins because I never had any siblings. They have become some of my greatest friends!

My Nanny Kids. At this point I don’t have any of my own children, but I do have nanny kids! I love watching them grow and learn. It’s such gift to be able to be part of two little lives in this exciting stage of life! I cherish my story times, snuggles, and great conversations with these children!

Organization. I live for organization. Chaos is simply not an option for me. I work best in a neat and tidy environment. I find organizing to be very calming. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Being outside.  The beauty of God’s creation is simply breathtaking. I love the fresh air and sunshine. I love the beach, nature, walking in the sunset, reading in the breeze, swinging, and much more. If I’m stressed out, I find that some fresh air is one of the best cures around.

IMG 3501

Laughter.  I love to laugh! It truly is the best medicine. Even when things aren’t going well, laughing will always cheer me up! :)

Projects.  I’m a project girl! I craft, DIY, re-purpose, and re-do. If I have a project going,  I’m happy. I also like to take on projects like helping in the church nursery or organizing a banquet. Projects help fill my time and give me purpose.

Chicago 078

Music.  Music speaks to my soul. It never fails to perk me up when I’m feeling down. Music can change my mood like nothing else. Music helped through long nights of homework, it helps me relax, it helps me celebrate, and it helps me contemplate. I often wish that music played  in my life, just like it does in movies. That would be fantastic!

Pictures. I don’t have a great camera right now. In fact, I take photos with my iPhone. However, the quality isn’t as important as the memories that are preserved. Hardly a day goes by when I don’t take at least a couple of photos. I adore looking back through the years and seeing what was going on and how everyone looked. Pictures capture a little slice of life and preserve it forever. I love that!

5 Things for Summer 2013 – Part One!

Okay, here is the first project for summer 2013! I started with the plastic bag dispenser DIY.

Here is the original picture and the source. All credit for this idea goes to tatertots & jello.

This project took me approximately 45 minutes, but I wasn’t rushing. It was a fun and easy DIY (especially when paired with Pandora!).

I started with an old wipe container.

IMG 3677

I ripped of the label and decided to decorate it with washi tape.

IMG 3681

I LOVE my washi tape! It is so easy to use, fun, and versatile! :)

Next, I flattened 9 plastic grocery bags and folded them in half. You can do more/less depending on your preference and container size.

IMG 3694

Then I lined them all up with the handles overlapping.

IMG 3700

I folded the top handle up so that it would stick out of the roll and then rolled them up, making sure to roll all the handles in.

Here is the final roll

And now, my finished product!

I am very pleased with how it turned out and I know that I will use it! This is a fun project to do in an afternoon.

Have a happy Monday!

House Project Video Tour!!!

Good morning! I’m so excited to bring you all a video today!

This is a house tour of our new house before we changed anything! It helps give a better idea of the orginal layout and size of things. Since, most of the lighting in the house wasn’t working, the video is a bit dark, especially the basement. I apologize in advance for the changing angles in the video. I don’t know what I was thinking when I took this video, but I figured that a weird video was better than none.

Also, I wasn’t originally planning on sharing this video with the world via internet, so please forgive my corny narration! One more thing- I talk about the new layout in the video, but we ended up changing most of it, so stay tuned for some major layout changes in future posts!

Enjoy the house tour! :)

If you are keeping up with the House Project series, you’ve already seen some of the demolition and what a huge change it made! Look for another House Project post next week! If you missed the first two posts, the links are below.

Summer Swimwear

Now that summer is officially here, it’s time to get make sure you have the perfect swimsuit (if you don’t already have one)!

Finding a flattering swimsuit has proved to be an extremely time-consuming and stressful task for me. It seems like each suit I try on has something wrong with it. Each and every body comes with its own set of particulars – long torso, short legs, large bust, etc. Although, there are millions of options, it can be nearly impossible to find a suit to meet all your particular needs.

Besides my body shape, I have another particular. I believe in modesty and I want to honor God and others in the way I present my body. That is why I choose a one piece over the ever-popular bikini. I want my suit to cover my chest, include a high back, and have a decently cut bottom. That is a tall order in today’s swimsuit market!

For those of us ladies who are committed to honoring God with our bodies AND finding a cute suit, the options are limited. It can be very discouraging when there seems to be no cute modest suit options. However, it IS possible to find a modest suit that isn’t from the 50s (or maybe it is, but it is adorable :)).

If you want to dress modestly even while at the beach, I applaud you. It can be very difficult to go against society. Please know that you are not alone!

I’m not trying to force anyone to dress modestly or proclaim that anyone who doesn’t is bad. Rather, I am trying to encourage the girls who do and offer up something for others to think about. If you think that dressing modestly is ridiculous and is discriminating against women, please watch the video below. It gives an interesting perspective on swimwear and a new reason why you too, may want to try a one piece this summer.

I stumbled upon this video through social media and it has certainly given me some food for thought! I really appreciate Jessica’s message and what she is trying to do. If you want to check out Jessica’s swimwear line here is the link - reyswimwear

Now, for a little fun! If you are in the market for a cute and modest swimsuit here a just a few I found this year!

Happy Swimming!! :)

* The above swimsuits are only suggestions. You will have to decide if they fit your body and its particulars modestly.

Bedroom Inspiration

Since we purchased our new home nearly a year ago, I’ve had plenty of time to think up ideas and designs for my new bedroom. I’ve scoured Pinterest and magazines and I must admit that I haven’t nailed down any solid ideas yet. It has been a bit of a challenge to envision what the room will look like because we totally changed the layout and lighting. Now that things are finally falling into place (windows and drywall), I’m really starting to work towards a design plan. I know that I want a light and bright design because my room has only two windows – one in the front and a skylight –  and  I want to make it as bright as possible with my color choices. I’m leaning towards blues and greens for the wall color. I’m kind of thinking a lot of white, sea green, and a few bright pinks for accents, and some navy/brown to ground it. We shall see what it actually turns out like.

Here are a few of the rooms that I’m drawing inspiration from:

1. I love softness and femininity of this room
