Since we purchased our new home nearly a year ago, I’ve had plenty of time to think up ideas and designs for my new bedroom. I’ve scoured Pinterest and magazines and I must admit that I haven’t nailed down any solid ideas yet. It has been a bit of a challenge to envision what the room will look like because we totally changed the layout and lighting. Now that things are finally falling into place (windows and drywall), I’m really starting to work towards a design plan. I know that I want a light and bright design because my room has only two windows – one in the front and a skylight – and I want to make it as bright as possible with my color choices. I’m leaning towards blues and greens for the wall color. I’m kind of thinking a lot of white, sea green, and a few bright pinks for accents, and some navy/brown to ground it. We shall see what it actually turns out like.
Here are a few of the rooms that I’m drawing inspiration from:
1. I love softness and femininity of this room

2. This room is very calming

I can’t wait to show you all what the finished room will look like! I’m so excited to see some colorful changes in my new room!
I mentioned in my Design Love post that my family is moving and we’re in the process of renovating our new house. When we purchased this house it was in very rough condition. The electricity was horrible and the plumbing was just as bad. There was mold in the basement and there were holes in the walls and ceilings. My grandfather is a wizard at building and renovating and he has been working very hard! He has virtually rebuilt the house from the bones up. I can’t wait until we are all finished!
Here are a few photos from the beginning before we started!
Here is the house! (July 2012)

As you can see, we started with some really wild colors and a lot of crazy! It is probably hard to get a good idea of the layout from the pictures, but it was a bit claustrophobic, especially the upstairs. We now have a completely different layout in the house and extra ceiling height in the upstairs. We have made a lot of progress since last July when these photos were taken – some landscaping, gutting, framing, and now a small addition.
Another house post coming soon! 🙂
I guess I’ll just jump in and begin my blog with an interior design post. Please bear with me as I am new to blogging and the first few posts will probably be choppy and difficult to read. I’m hoping that my blogging skills will improve quickly!
I love to design and decorate rooms and I’m always up for some new inspiration. One of my favorite design icons is Sarah Richardson. Some of you may already know her from her HGTV shows. I stumbled upon her show, Sarah’s House, around a year ago and instantly fell in love. Sarah and her assistant, Tommy, are funny and easy-going. I love the charm, sophistication, and elegance of Sarah’s designs.
On the show, Sarah purchases a home and renovates and decorates the entire house room by room. The viewers get to see all the decisions and processes that go into designing a room; making the show informative as well as entertaining. I’ve also seen and enjoyed another of Sarah’s shows, Sarah 101. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge and inspiration from Sarah and that is why I’m so excited about her new website launch!
The new website features more videos, a huge portfolio, and a lot more tips and tricks to help aspiring designers. It’s a great place to go for design help or a little fresh inspiration.
My family is renovating a house and I will be designing my new bedroom/bathroom/sitting room so this website launch couldn’t have come at a better time for me! I hope to post some pictures of the house and my progress along the way.
If you don’t have the HGTV channel, you can check out some full episodes of Sarah’s House as well as Sarah’s Summer House at hgtv.com.
You never know, you just might get inspired too! 🙂
