Demolition Part 2

Here is the second part of the house demolition. We knocked down the rest of the drywall and several walls, tore up the floors, and started with the roof.ย The leaves were falling and so were our walls! The weather was turning cooler, but our enthusiasm for the project was heating up! Okay, enough silly puns! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Also, I apologize for the poor photo quality. I don’t have a great camera and I didn’t have an iPhone at that point. I hope to someday own a DSLR, but for now it’s just a dream! ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are the pictures!

Pops and his ladder! ๐Ÿ™‚

Next up is our new roof! The roof was “high” on our list of things to do before winter. Oh goodness, I guess I’m feeling punny today! ๐Ÿ™‚

Two very eager workers!!

Part of the old roof torn off

The first half of the roof completed! My Pops and Nana chose a green metal roof. I think that the green ties in nicely with the surrounding trees and ย I LOVE metal roofs. The sound of the rain is so calming and since I have an upper level bedroom, I will get to hear it well!

Here is the completed roof and just in time for the snow! Actually, it’s not all finished at this point. Pops wanted to wait to do the back half of the kitchen until he added the addition so that he could tie those areas together.

Have a Happy Wednesday! ๐Ÿ™‚

A couple of months after we purchased the house, the demolition began. The reason that we purchased such a fixer-upper was because my grandpa was a builder and he is extremely knowledgable about renovation, building, and houses. My cousin, Andrew, is interested in building work and he was able to do an apprenticeship with my grandpa and learn from him. This arrangement is working great because Andrew is gaining knowledge and skills and my grandpa has some help.

In the first few of months, some trees were cut down,ย they took down all the basement walls, tore apart the upstairs, and started a new roof.

Here is ย a look at the back of the house after they cut down the trees and started getting ready to do the roof.

The front of the house after the trees were trimmed and the shrubs removed. Notice the garbage shoot into the dumpster in the far right corner of the house below the window!

DSCN0100The upstairs demolition got messy! This is my grandpa scraping the junk into the dumpster.

DSCN0087Here is my room. Notice how my room (red) has been joined with the little blue room on the right. In the middle is the door to the storage room, which will be our storage. I am so happy about having such a huge room to store my stuff (mom’s too) and it is connected to my bedroom!!

It got VERY dirty!! These pictures look a bit blurry because of all the dust flying around up there.

Andrew, working hard!!!

Convenient ๐Ÿ™‚

This process was so much fun to watch. The progress was very quick and it was so much fun to see the spaces opened up! It opened the doors to dream up how we wanted to put the house back together. Demolition Part 2 is coming up next!
